Mrs. Lindeman's
4th grade Disclosure Document 2013-2014
Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to Mrs. Lindeman’s class at Saratoga Shores Elementary School. I am excited about being your new teacher this year and I am looking forward to getting to know each one of you and your student. I would like to take this opportunity to inform you about our classroom expectations and procedures. Please read through the following information, and feel free to call, text or email me if you have any questions.
Purpose: The success of your child’s education depends on the cooperation between the parents, Teacher and student. As your child’s teacher, I am committed in making this a great year. The curriculum we will be covering this year is based on the Core Standards set by the State of Utah.
Electronic Devices:
Attendance: Students will need to be to school on time and in their seat by the second bell. The first bell rings at 7:55 a.m. for Track A students and 9:10 for Track B students. In accordance with District Policy, you will be contacted when your child has been out of school for 3 consecutive days. Please send a written excuse back to school with your student or email the school at [email protected]. If for any reason you wish your child to leave school, visit the office to sign your student out of the building. Do not come to the classroom the office will call my room for your student. Keep in mind, many things are taught in class that cannot be duplicated at home. There may be times when your student is absent that work cannot be made up.
Tardies: Please, try to have your student here on time. Late students must first check in with the office. Students will be admitted to the classroom with a slip from the office. Any time a student enters the classroom late it interrupts the class learning process.
Planners: Your student will be given a planner, which is to travel from school to home and back again every day. Each evening, please sign your student’s planner to verify that your student has completed the reading minutes and daily assigned homework. Please write any notes to me in the planner. I will also use this as a communication tool with you. The planner is one of the best communication tools since I check their planner daily.
Grading Policy: Assessments will be administered at the start and conclusion of each Unit. Assessments will not always be a written test but each assessment will be given a grade and returned to the student within
a week’s time.
Grades will be based on assessments, daily assignments, homework, and learning habits. Grades will be presented in letter format using the following percentile scale.
90-100% A Outstanding
80-89% B Good
70-79% C Satisfactory
0-69% N Needs Improvement
Daily Homework: Please have your student plan on spending 30 minutes to an hour on homework each night. Fourth graders should read 20 to 30 minutes every night. Other homework will be assigned to students on topics such as math concepts, science, Utah studies, spelling words, vocabulary and writing. There will also be long-term projects that students will be working on that will need to be completed at home. Some assignments may require outside time doing research, building projects, etc. You will be notified about these projects as they occur. Please encourage your student to have a regular time and place to complete their homework and reading.
Late Work: Unprepared work causes problems for students and teachers. Excuses will not prepare students for future school or work. However, I understand that life can be hectic and things happen. Work will be accepted one day late with a 10 percent grade reduction. Any missing assignments received after that date will receive up to 50% credit.
Behavior: I have high standards for behavior in our classroom. It is my goal to help students understand that they are solely responsible for the way they act in and out of our classroom. Students are expected to follow the following rules:
· Follow directions the first time
· Raise your hand to speak or stand
· Be an attentive listener
· Keep hands, feet and other objects to yourself
· Be prepared
There will be many opportunities for students to be recognized for on-task behavior.
Individual Student Responsibilities:
Ø Be prepared for school each day. (Planner signed, homework, etc.)
Ø Be here! You’ll miss out if you are late or absent. It is very difficult to make up math assignments, science experiments, computer and group work. Try to come every day.
Ø Be responsible. YOU are the one responsible for staying on task and getting all work completed and turned in.
Ø Be willing to learn and work hard!
Parent Volunteers: There is a lot that a parent/volunteer can do in the classroom. Some possible activities that can help are reading with students, practicing math facts, making copies, changing bulletin boards, organizing books, sorting student work, etc. If you would like to help in the classroom please let me know. I would love your help.
Field Trips: A fun part of Fourth Grade is a Field Trip. If you would like to assist with field trips please contact the school office and become fingerprinted if you haven’t already. Any volunteer that helps with a field trip will need to be fingerprinted by Saratoga Shores Elementary in advance. Volunteers who go on field trips need to remember that they are volunteering to keep the students on task and they will be assigned with a group of students or may be given another specified assignment. I would really appreciate your help on these days. (SO MUCH FUN!)
Birthdays:
Birthdays are a fun part of our class. Here are some Birthday guidelines:
1. Please email or call if you are planning to bring treats so we can set up a
proper time to do so.
2. All birthday treats must be store bought.
3. Each treat must be individually wrapped for each student.
4. Please, DO NOT SEND CUPCAKES: Students think the first thing to
do with cupcakes is to smear the frosting on their faces.
5. Nut allergies can be very dangerous. Due to the nut allergies in our class any
treat sent to class with nuts or produced in a facility processing nut items will be sent home with your student!!!
6. Be creative with your treat. Pencils, erasers or other school
related non-food items are great.
Contact Information: The following is my contact information. Feel free to contact me at anytime. Please know that you are my greatest tool to understanding your child. I am here to work with you to help your student progress in many ways. Thank you for having such wonderful children!
